Amazing, Amazing! I LOVE all the techniques from Pat Huntoon's new CD "Emboss or Die" and all the creative possibilities it promises! The TJ design team has fabulous sneak peek ideas to share with you today... so I hope you will check them all out!! Hold the drool;)

My card here uses the floating window technique. It has a lacey delicate feel to it... just right for an inspirational card. I also envision the technique with a funky/chunky look that would be fun and hip! The Emboss or Die CD has those professional instructions and step by step photos that Pat is famous for... you wont be disappointed with the multitude of ideas!

Newly Organized

Hello from a chilly Memphis!
I'm certain I am not the only crafter out there who has spent some time organizing in 2011. I needed to do a little re-organizing to reflect my stamping needs. My youngest daughter has been stamping frequently and I needed to include her in the re-organizing. Now, the stamping space feels fresh and inviting... for both my daughter and I.

The floral image here is by smARTworks and colored with Copics. I sponged baja breeze around the edge of my oval to soften the focal point before it was layered on black. This image is framed with Torn Frames technique in baja breeze cardstock and layered onto razzleberry. There is a ton of texture with embossed layer, torn paper edges and crochet lace!

Welcome to the October Technique by Design blog hop!

My card using the technique by design sketch was inspired by crisp green apples... the tart apples that make the best warm apple pie. Layer 'A' is a section of Antiqued Glimmers and Layer 'B' is Faded Texture from the current TJ issue. Once the section of faded texture was dry I did highlight the lettering from the embossing folder with walnut stain distress ink. I really wanted some of the fun autumn words to show! Playing with techniques is so relaxing and I hope you are inspired.

VC Rocks Blog Hop 4

Welcome Friends! We are blog hopping on our last tour for VC summer 2010. I know you enjoyed Melanie's project and all the other VC Rockers on the hop!

I have 2 cards to share with similar design both using NEW colors!

The color combination featured here is Early Espresso, Cherry Cobbler and Crumb Cake.

Our celebration at VC is about to end for the summer. Our group 'hibernates' for the fall and winter. Come next spring the leadership team will start planning all the fun stuff to do for the summer of 2011. I sure hope that regular blog hops are on that list!! If you are a Rocker... be sure to attend our annual Awards Ceremony where I will announce all the rockers earning VC medals and the BIG winners of our Medal drawing! Sheryl Brown will announce the winners in our card contest! Whoo hooo!

I changed the layout and embellishments up a tiny bit and gave it a more masculine feel. The colors here are Baja Breeze, Early Espresso and Crumb Cake.

VC Rocks Blog Hop for July!

Hello Rockin' Friends!

Welcome to the third VC Rocks blog hop of the season! Our blog hops and make and takes have been a huge success this year... huge thanks to all the VC Rocks members who contribute their talent and inspiration!! If you have missed any of the wonderful stops on the hop... begin at the VC Rocks blog. If you arrived from Brenda Hugar's blog you've seen her awesome VC Hotel inspired project... isnt it too cute??

On to my share for today! I'm featuring the motorcycle stamp from the Summer mini (get this little guy while you can, it is so fun to play with) and the returning In Colors Tangerine Tango and Soft Suede. There is alot of shine on my card which you may not see in the photo.

My background is a modified version of Antiqued Glimmers from Technique Junkies Newsletter. First, I rubbed tangerine tango and soft suede ink onto a non-stick craft sheet. Next, I spritzed the ink with gold glow Smooch Spray and laid my white cardstock into the mixture. Repeat this process once and let dry. The dry background piece was embossed with a folder and the embossed areas highlighted by dragging a soft suede ink pad across the surface. Set this aside.
The main image was stamped with soft suede. I used a blender pen and tangerine tango ink to color in selected portions of the motorcycle. Tear around the image and sponge soft suede along the edges... repeat with greeting.
The hodgepodge hardware was distressed by using sandpaper made for metal. Sorry I dont know the brand because I snuck it out of my hubby's sandpaper stash. Swipe a little dark brown alcohol ink (Sharpie or Copic marker) and immediately wipe with a dry cloth to remove some of the ink. If you are angry or frustrated, hammer the edges a bit;)
Lastly, embellish with a bit of knotted crochet lace tied to the square hardware!

VC Rocks Blog Hop for May!

Hello Rockin' Friends!
If you have arrived here from Kelly's blog ....welcome! If you have just arrived... our very first VC blog hop begins at VC Rocks !
I love rubber stamping techniques... I love my copic markers... and I love VC Rocks yahoo group for all the summer stamping fun! It is a group of ladies who love to stamp, scrap, swap, do challenges, play games and above all make friends!
The theme for our first blog hop is to use Stampin' UP! retiring colors or summer mini stamp sets. I choose to use Brilliant Blue, Taken with Teal, Handsome Hunter and Mellow Moss to create a birthday card. I hope you enjoy it!

Directions:
1. Prepare a 1/4 sheet of Faux Designer Paper (Technique Junkie Newsletter Dec. 08) by embossing the large flourish from Baroque Motifs with clear embossing powder then apply mellow moss direct to paper. With hot iron and scrap paper, remove the embossing powder leaving a resist behind. Stamp additional images from Extreme Elements with taken with teal and handsome hunter. Trim 1/4 edge off.
2. Stamp flower image from Fifth Avenue floral seven times in clear embossing powder. Use a sponge to apply mellow moss, taken with teal and brilliant blue ink to each flower. Cut out. Embellish each flower center with dazzling diamonds glitter.
3. Layer faux designer paper section onto taken with teal and then a brilliant blue A2 size base.
4. Adhere cut flowers to the faux designer paper section, leaving upper right corner open for a greeting of your choice. Add oval clip and tie grograin ribbon to edge of greeting.

Quickie little post from VC Rocks

Friends I am enjoying the stamping fun over at VC Rocks (Virtual Celebration of everything Stampin' UP!). We enjoying some daily challenges and lots of chat... with swaps, classes, contests and more to come over the summer!!
This little card uses 3 of my favorite SU colors- tangerine, bermuda bay and soft suede. The tangerine layer was created with Painted Pigments technique that I developed for "Technique Junkies Newsletter". For the daily challenge I was only allowed to use one SU that I've used the most over the past year... I'm pretty sure that was French Filigree.
I hope you enjoy the results.

Technique by Design Blog Hop

Hello Friends... and welcome to my stop on the Technique by Design Blog Hop!! I'm so thrilled Pat Huntoon started publishing the Technique by Design feature into the newsletter. I'm finding many fun and creative ideas for all the many fabulous techniques published over the years! I hope to inspire you along with all the other TJ designers.

For my card I incorporated technique pieces that had orange and yellow tones. I wanted warm and sunny to show off the main daffodil image.
Panel A is the Sanded Core'dinations- current issue.
Panels B and D are both Painted Pigments technique (Aug. 08 issue) however panel D I ran through the cuttlebug and highlighted the embossing with stickles glitter glue. I liked the touch of pink mixed with the orange and yellow inks:)
Panel C and E are Spritzed Copic Stone (Dec. 09 issue) using Y11, Y38 and YR15 copic sketch markers. My main image is colored with copics.

Hello Friends!
It has been a long couple months since I've posted. Many of you may already know my son was critically ill and had major heart surgery in January. He is a young man so this came as quite a shock to my family. Praise be to God he is now recovering well! God is GOOD!!
I am trying to get back into the creative swing of things in my life. I hope you'll enjoy this thank you card I sent to my sister. She lovingly drove 2 hours each way to come and stay at the hospital while my son was there... it was such a blessing to have her there with me. The main image is by B Line stamps and colored with copic markers. The background technique is antiqued glimmers published in Technique Junkies Newsletter Dec. 09.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Friends and Followers!

Allow me to share one big reason I've been missing.... our new puppy! This little sweetie pup is a Christmas present for my daughter. She is a long hair chihuahua. Just a day and a half after we picked her up she became very sick and it was several days and long nights of nuring her back to health. I am happy to report that Rosalee is healthy and playful again!

I have a couple projects I've worked over the past few weeks. Below is an art piece that began as a stretched canvas. I created this for a santa gift exchange at my LSS. I used Primary Elements with solution #2 for all the painted parts- canvas, tissue, grungeboard and silk flowers.

Tilted view... there is a double layer of ribbon covering the sides.

This card is for my hubby... we celebrated our 10th anniversary right before Christmas as well. The puppy was very sick during our special weekend so we stayed home to care for her but friends invited our human daughters for sleep overs so at least we had some snuggle time;)

I will be working on a bunch of projects this next week... some I can share and others you'll have to wait to see. But in the meantime enjoy your families and stay toasty warm!

Warm Midnight Wishes

Warm and cozy greetings to all my friends and followers. It is a little chilly around most of the USA the past few days, Memphis included. Oh, how I hope that might bring us some Christmas snow!

This Christmas card is my personal favorite of all those I've made this season! It is for my mom but I hope you will enjoy the view:) The stamp is by Stampin' UP and colored with Copic markers with touches of a Spica glitter pen here and there. The background is a technique called Antiqued Glimmers (from the current issue of Technique Junkies) that I embellished with some embossing.

The last one I actually colored first... then the next two I figured out to color over the black in the penguins with Copic neutral gray 7... boy do those cute little guys pop out with that touch of extra gray!

First up, I'd like to share this fairy card featuring 'Color Outside the Lines' technique from the Dec. 09 issue of Technique Junkies Newsletter. I'm finding this technique to be especially helpful when I have large detailed images and I do not want to color the whole thing but want to work with a portion of the image or when I have a smaller image that I want to appear larger yet still highlight the beauty of the image itself.

Next I'd like to share this winter scene by Stampin' UP using the same Color Outside the Lines technique. With this scene I stamped the image with Rich Cocoa by Memento (rather than the usual black) and used frosty blue tones (BG000 and BG01 copic markers) for coloring. A tiny touch of yellow in the church window becomes very inviting in this chilly winter scene.

This technique is great to use with a variety of coloring mediums... give it a try!!

Thanksgiving pumpkins... the bottom layer I sponged distress (applied in smooth circular motions).

This harvest wreath card has alot of coloring detail... but it was very relaxing to make!

A Little Something...

I've been out with a virus and now my girls have it so my regular blog challenge needed to take a mini break. While we recover at my house, here is a little guy that I hope you will find super cute! Welcome Friends! Don't you just love this time of year? I do! The crisp coolness in the air, the musty smell of fallen leaves and harvests from the bounty of the earth. I had a fantastically busy day yesterday! We had an awesome copic class at our LSS followed by sharing a tasty dinner at Corky's BBQ with friends. I came home to a family that missed me... lots of hugs and snuggles. Not much better than that huh?

Welcome friends to a warm and wonderful challenge this week! I was visiting Northeast Ohio last weekend and noticed the leaves were changing into those warm autumn colors. Here in Memphis the autumn leaves are muted, not nearly as vivid as up north. The Good Lord has blessed our northern neighbors with a bounty of beauty! This weeks colors celebrate those vivid autumn leaves.

My technique is Faux Turquoise Stones. I arranged the pieces into a necklace form and added half pearls to complete the look. The background paper is Black Suede from Paper Temptress... it is so easy to stamp on and the feel is so luxurious! Just perfect for a jeweled necklace:)

I have a bit of summer and a bit of autumn in this weeks colors... warmth of the sun in a deeper yellow and a bright pink with a hint of the changing leaves to come in a deeper red.

Artful Sentiments Copic Challenge #24

Hello Friends and Welcome!
We have some hot, end of summer colors to share for this weeks challenge. This color combo was inspired by Ann Clack. What a perfect color range to celebrate the last major holiday of the season.
This weeks Copic Challenge colors- RV09, YG09, YR09
Several members of the design team are on vacation or spending time with family. I want to give a shout out to my whole design team. They are fabulous ladies with awesome talent and each has a unique style to their artwork.
My submission is a simple 'make it in 15 min' card. I used the challenge colors in a direct to rubber technique. Then took a black and white printed paper and filled in areas with RV09 and YR09 to match my image. A little YR09 brushed on clear rhinestones and tada... finished!

This and That

I have a few life things to share today... I don't always do that so hope you don't mind:) This is son #3 who started his freshman year of college today. As we home schooled K-12, it was also the first day I had to send him off to school. I don't know if I'll ever feel that I taught him 'enough' and of course I made mistakes along the way... but it is time to trust that I gave him a firm foundation that he will wisely build on.

My daughters and I have been having fun coloring in some rather cute images from The Greeting Farm. My youngest daughter (8yr) selected this mermaid.. and we all colored together with copics (many interesting conversations develop when we are having this sort of girl time). I showed the girls how to properly use copic markers and they are doing beautifully with them!

This is a tumbled tile that I altered. I worked on it as I was prepping for a club meeting at my LSS. I used Polished Pigments from Luminarte Inc. to create colored glazes that are durable. Love the rich vibrant colors of polished pigments! I have more bare tiles I'd like to work on this week. Some of them I'll sell at my Art and Craft supply sale this coming weekend. My daughter (12yr) needs surgery on both her eyes and I am putting much of my stamping and art supplies up for sale to help us meet the deductible. Hello Friends!
I'm happy to share another Copic Challenge with you this week. This week should push you to stretch those creative wings. We are once again working with complementary colors. Using complementary colors together tends to make each color 'pop' more... red makes green look greener, orange makes blue look bluer and violet make yellow more... yellowy:) Play with the color a bit and see what evolves!

Good Apple

Hello Friday!
A few cooler nights in Memphis cause me to yearn for autumn and all the things associated with the season. An abundance of fresh sweet apples is sign autumn has arrived! One of my favorite sayings about apples is "The apple doesn't fall that far from the tree". It's a wonderful reminder of the importance our past... our roots and the family we come from... as well as a reminder of the hope in the future... our children and how we raise them.
This particular card I made with a dear friend in mind. She is one of those 'good apples'. The image was colored with Copics.
Here is a slightly tilted view so you can see the shimmer from the lemon Spica pen. I added little wisps of it where the sun would hit.

Copic Tutorial- Blending Across Groups

Hello Friends
I want to share a quick tutorial with you on blending. I'm going to show you how I colored the leaves for this card.If you are working with the Copic color wheel your natural blending groups are those that share the same first numerical. In the photo below those are outlined in red and work their way across in an arch from lightest to darkest. (YG00-YG09). Natural blending groups closer to the gray core are more muted and therefore have more gray tones.

Sometimes when we are coloring we want to use colors not in the natural blending group but rather blend across color groups. For instance I can use a YG03 and YG17 for a leaf and use a dark green- G28 or blue B97 for shadow.

First I lay down the base color- YG03

Next I add YG17 for the leaf color and 'blend' with YG03 by softening the edges where the YG17 stops. As I layer the color, I'm not adding more color over the very edges and tips of the leaf as I want them to remain 'light'.

For the shadowing I use a G28 and blend with the YG17. YG67 also works very well as a shadow color for YG17 as it is a more muted yellow green color.

Lastly, where I want really deep shadows I add just a touch of B97 where the leaf folds over itself. Greens readily accept blue for shadows.

Framed Fruit Basket

Hello Friends
Today I want to share a project I made for a friend. The stamp image used is from Penny Black and colored with copic markers. It doesn't show very well in the photo but there is a soft buttery yellow airbrushed background. I used clear AtYou Spica pens to add a touches of 'light' to some of the highlights which I think really brings it to life.
The matte was dark blue until I altered it with Glimmer Mists (Cinnamon and Wild Currant) and Radiant Rain (Snapdragon). After I spritzed the colors on I used a sea sponge to keep the color from running in unwanted directions. Once dry, I sealed with a glossy sealer.

Here is a close up. The little butterfly isn't part of the stamp. It was added later to cover up a spot where I dropped my marker tip. Of course that boo-boo happened when I was close to finishing the image. Gotta love a good save!

Tutorial- Blended Sky

Hello Friends

I love soft auras around images colored with copic markers. It took me some trial and error and a bit of practice before I was able to get my own looking half decent! I want to share how I achieve the effect without an airbrush. I hope you enjoy the tutorial today!

Stamp credit: Sweet and Sassy Stamps

Copic colors used: BG000, BG10, 0 colorless blender-make sure it is wet!

1. Begin adding your base sky color (BG000) around the image.

2. Add a second layer of the same color this time blend from the edge of the image outward in a feathering (or swooping) motion.

3. With each motion, your brush tip begins fully touching the cardstock and as you feather upwards the brush tip lifts off the cardstock as shown. Keep the direction of your brush strokes parallel to the horizon. Work with an inch or so at a time. Repeat if desired.

4. Add the second, slightly deeper color (BG10) in a thinner line right next to the image edge.

(Sorry for the blurry photos here, my daughter was taking pics as I was working. )

6. Use your wet blender pen to feather INTO the sky color. Begin by touching the brush end flat against the cardstock and feather (or swoop) upward into the sky area. Do not pull the blender all the way to the image edge or close to your second color layer. It is important to begin outside the colored area as the blender pen is removing color as you swoop inward and therefore ‘blending’ it into your first layers of sky color.

7. Feathering upward into the sky with brush tip parallel to the horizon. Repeat this blending process 2 or 3 times until your sky has a smooth transition.

Other color options for creating sky:

B000 and B00- bright blue sky
B91 and B21- duller light blue
C0 and B91- cloudy gray sky
Y000 and Y11- bright sunny
YR000 and Y00 or Y11- peachy warm sky before sunset
(pull the yellow out farther over the YR000)
C0 or C1 and BV20- dusky gray like before a snowstorm

Hello Friends
I want to share a couple cards with wonderful Stampin' UP images today. I really needed more 'thinking of you' type cards in my stash... so many people I know are struggling lately, not always financial but in other areas of life too. I have those days myself and its very comforting to know others care and pray for you.
This first card with the seashell by Stampin' UP was stamped with Memento, London Fog ink. I wanted the stamped image softer and used lighter copic markers to color- E000, E02, E51, R32, R20. I love being able to blend and layer colors with copics!! When the coloring was finished, I overstamped the words with chocolate chip ink so it would stand out against the shell. The background designer papers are by Stampin' UP. I added touches of stickles to put more life into the seashell.

This second card is for a military family... not sympathy, just a caring for you card. The background is Camouflage technique by Technique Junkies (TJ issue Oct. 08) and I added some drywall stitching (TJ issue Apr. 09) to the edges. For the main image, I colored with regular dye markers direct to stamp and accented the image with little dashes.

With both cards I used nestabilities to die cut the ovals. I needed to keep these cards as flat as possible for mailability.

Fixing a Boo-Boo

Hello Friends
My house has been so full of wonderful life things happening! My son's graduation ceremony went beautifully. Here is a picture of my son and I... with my 'tween daughter. I am so proud of him!

All these family celebrations left me little art time... so after catching up on mandatory things around the house I took a break for some art time! My LSS started carrying Sarah Kay stamps... love them! I colored one of these little cuties for my copic challenge and just had to do another! I colored her with copics. Then I had a little oopsie. I dropped a brown inkpad on my finished image! Left inkpad lines right in the middle of the image where I couldn't cover it up. I didn't want to throw her away... so choose to over stamp the whole panel with a sanding block stamp. At least it worked with the Burnt Edges base layer!

Artful Sentiments Copic Challenge 9

Hello Friends!
I am posting the weekly challenge a tad early this weekend as my son is graduating Saturday! I've homeschooled him all 13 years... need I say I'm getting a little sentimental? I'm so proud of the young man he has become and direction he wants to go with his life. Sigh... They do grow up so fast don't they?

Graduation Card

Hello Friends!
I worked on a couple little projects yesterday and wanted to share this graduation card with you. A young lady across the street is earning her college graduation soon and I wanted to make something for her. My original intent was to make the center greeting spin upon opening, but my 3" circle was too big... so I suspended it at quarter marks instead. It's different!
The center circle image was created by coloring dye markers directly to the stamp, misting and then stamping 3-4 times. I used Nestabilities die cuts for the circles and open cut on the front.

Copic Marker Rack

Happy Mother's Day Ladies!
I just have to share my gift with you as I'm so excited about it! This is an acrylic marker rack designed for the Copic Sketch marker. It is open for table top use and each rack holds 112 markers. I love it!!
There are two sizes available. With this one, each column holds 7 markers deep... so you can keep one whole color family together! I like that kind of organization.You can find this copic marker rack at the Carpe Diem Store. They have empty cases and wire racks too! I love these colors... they are right on the edge of summer. One thing I hope to share with our readers is that even if you do not have the exact color listed, Copic has such a range of color that you can find colors close to the selection and still create beautifully... and allow for your individual artistic interpretation! I think the design team captures that creativity wonderfully for you!!

Goodmorning Friends,
Welcome to copic challenge 6! This weeks colors were inspired by tender spring blossoms! Challenge colors are: YG11, R20, B21 and any other marker from the blue family.

I started coloring a floral for today's challenge card, then got distracted by a new stamp. For a moment, I felt unfaithful to the image I started with... but that new carousel stamp from Hearts in Touch kept calling my name. Am I the only stamper that hears voices from my stamps lol?
I'm happy to share that we have a guest designer for the month of May, Becky Peterson! She jumped right in with this weeks colors. I hope you enjoy the design teams artistic interpretation of the colors for the week and that it will inspire you to color!

Goodmorning Friends
We are getting ready for a full, fun day at the BT household! Today is our homeschool co-ops last day for the school year. Each year we have field games for the kids and a huge picnic. Thunderstorms are threatening but I'm praying we will not get rained on and God will hold those storms off so the kids can enjoy their races!
I worked on this challenge card for the Colour Copic Challenge way late last night. I kept it very simple! The challenge colors were- Y08, BG13, E31. I only have E31... although I want to get BG13... so I focused on the marker color I had. First I stamped the shell image by Stampin UP in Memento London Fog. Then I colored with copic markers- YR000. YR00, RV00 and E31. The beautiful 'Footprints' stamp is by Cornish Heritage Farms was stamped over the coloring with Memento black ink. The pattern on the strip of colored cardstock was created with my E31 marker too!
I am very thankful for all the times in my life when I've needed to feel the peace of Jesus around me and He carries me through those trials. I hope you all have that sort of peace in your day.

New Design Team!!

I am thrilled and excited!!
Thank you to all the great ladies who submitted their artwork for the design team call. I've heard people say before how hard it is to select one over another... and having felt that sting of what I saw as rejection... I didnt quite 'get it'. Now I understand because every one of the ladies who submitted had great artwork!! Selecting team members came down to finding a good mix of different stamping styles amoung the team.
After reviewing dozens and dozens of submissions for the design team I've selected 5 awesome stamping talents to join me in presenting the copic challenges! They each have a unique artistic style that I think a variety of stampers out there will relate to and find inspiration from their artwork.

Artful Sentiments Copic Challenge 5

Hey girls!
It is going to be almost 90 degrees here in Memphis today! The sun is shinning and there is a nice breeze. Beautiful weather. Jealous? Get a taste of summer with this weeks copic challenge!!

This weeks colors are: BG15, YG06, RV09 and any color from the yellow family.

My sample card for the week:
No fancy blending or shading here. Simple straight up coloring! I did color my clear rhinestone brads with the matching copic marker for each flip flop. The stamp image is by Imaginesce.... cost a buck. The rick rack I've had in my sewing supplies for... I dont know... probably years! I've really gotten into the look of rick rack on my cards. I want to share that my 12yr old daughter picked the colors for this week. They are very much her style:)

I am looking to put together a design team of 3-4 stamp artists for the Artful Sentiments copic challenges. If you are interested, email me- artfulsentiments@aol.com with a link to your blog and/or gallery. A commitment to one card per week will be asked of each design team member. You do not have to be copic certified, have previous design team experience or own a ton of copic markers to apply. It's about falling in love with coloring again! Additional consideration will be given to those who also use TJ techniques in their work.
Added note: Design team members will received the colors for challenges 2 weeks ahead so they can work around their schedules. Team members will have a 6 month rotation.

I taught class at my local scrapbook store this past Saturday. Here are 2 of the cards we did in class. I forgot to take a picture of the third card but we used the Hummingbird Acres stamp by Inkadinkado that I love! We had a couple of beginners in class... and that is always exciting!!

Easter Treat Boxes

Hello Friends
I hope you've all had a blessed Easter weekend as we have had at my house. My whole family came down with a virus during the week so if you were looking for my copic challenge, forgive me I could not get to it. I didnt get to color at all this week! Saturday evening I was pushing for time trying to finish an Easter surprise for my daughters. Instead of Easter baskets, I made them Easter boxes. Once the candy treats are gone, they can use the boxes for their assorted Barbie and Brat clothes. My girls each choose the papers they liked so their individual box is custom made for them:)
I used punches to create the flowers.... Flower by EK Success, 5 Petal punch, 3 blossom punch and wide oval punch by Stampin' UP, Fern punch by Martha Stewart. I layered the punched pieces together, punched a 1/8 hole in the center and adhered together with a large brad. Next I rolled in the edges of the petals a bit and applied Stickles glitter glue to accent. The baby blossoms I simply taped on the box and added little pearls. Oh my girls loved their boxes!
I have some catching up to do around the house today... but I hope I can get back on track soon!

It is spring even though some of my stamping friends across the country are still having snow. Here is Memphis blossoms are popping up everywhere! I chose this weekends Copic colors in anticipation of spring.
Your colors are: R81, B21, Y21... and any color from the green family. Do not worry if you do not have the exact colors just look for those softer lighter colors.

My sample card today features stamp images by Sweet and Sassy Stamps. I love this Eye on the Sparrow set beautifully drawn by Chris Dickinson.

On the Shore

Goodmorning Friends
I worked on this mini scene the last 2 evenings. The first evening I worked on the sky and water. I used a BG000 for the coloring in the sky and a colorless blender to lighten the sky close to the horizon. The water was a little easier. I began with a base coat of B21 then added B24 and B37 for the deepest color. I did need to wash out some of the color at the shore line with a blender. A white gel pen was used to give the waves a little bubbly foam.
The second evening I worked on the beach and other images. I'm not terribly happy with how my sand colors look... I wish I had some lighter 'sandy' colors. I used E30 and E53 which seemed the right colors to me, just too dark. What color copic do you use for sand? I did try washing out some color with the blender. I added a little Y21 here and there to give the sand some warmth. Outside of the sand, I'm pretty happy with the end result.
Other Copic colors- girl- E000, E00, RV00, R83, R85, C1, Y11, Y17 foliage-YG00, YG06, YG17, YG63, G99, W1 birds- N4

Very Chocolatey

Hello gals!
I have a chocolatey card today for the Copic Colour Challenge. The challenge colors are: R22, B12 and E47. I did not have the exact blue... I used B21 and B23. Once the coloring was finished, I went over the leaf and cherry with a Spica glitter pen. I think you can catch that little glimmer in the photo.

Lilies for Easter

Hello Friends
I'm enjoying a little art time today and want to share. I colored this lily by Lasting Impressions with Panache for Easter cards. Pretty much they were colored identical expect the top card I used a cool gray C0 to halo the image and the bottom card I used a Y000 to halo the image.
I wanted to add the paper flowers, but in hindsight I wished I left them off and just let the floral coloring and texture of the background stand alone.

Copic colors used on both lily cards: E000, RV00, RV19, Y17, YG00, YG11, YG17.

This version I used a background technique from Technique Junkies Newsletter... the April 09 issue. I could control the softness with the background technique so it worked well with my finished image.
Off to run a load of laundry and play some more:)

Welcome again Copic friends to round 2 of my Copic Challenges! I hope you will find time to participate.

G07 Nile Green
YR04 Chrome Orange
R08 Vermilion
And any color from the Yellow (Y) family.
If you need a color chart or the Copic color wheel, look in the Copic Library.

I used YR04, YR07, R17 (closest I had to R08) for the carrot portion, YG00 and G07 for the greens and Y000 for the halo around the image. Stamp is by Shady Tree Studio.

These happy little images are from an inchies set by Inkadinkado. I used Copics of course for the coloring: B21, B24, R29, Y11, YR04, G28, C1. The background paper is by BoBunny... love how the dots match with the stamps!
Here is the larger set of images put together in a scene. When doing the squares it helps to find the center point on your cardstock and adhere that center image first. The other images then can be spaced at 1/4" apart.

New Challenges for you!

I have fallen in love with coloring again!! I sat on the fence about investing in Copic markers way too long last year! The ability to layer colors, blend perfectly and the range of colors available have made them #1 in my book.
To help me with some inspiration I've been following the Copic Colour Challenge Blog. Great inspiration and wonderful samples posted by their DT! I can't wait until they post their challenges on Wednesday!! To help tide me over... and hopefully a few other Copic addicts out there... I'm going to post weekend Copic challenges right here on Artful Sentiments by Kimm BT.
I will give you a list of 3 specific colors and one color family. You choose any or all of those specific colors and one from the color family for your artwork. Don't worry if you do not have the exact color... work with what you have. Post the link to share your artwork in the Mister Linky box.

Your first selections are: B24-Sky, G99-Olive, Y21-Buttercup Yellow

And any selection from the EARTH tones family.

This should give you a good range to work with.

Trio of Peppers

All you gals seeing my third post for today can definitely say 'She has caught the copic bug!'. I want to color everything!! I'm looking through all my stamps trying to find more that would be fun to color... some I can practice on... and some oldie but goodies! And my daughters and I are having a blast! Here are my last two for tonight... then I'm calling it a night and relaxing with my family.
This whimsical floral image is by Stampendous. I colored it for the Copic Colour Challenge using V06, B93, YG11. The colors were a pretty good match to this background paper!

Here is the pepper stamp again by Cornish Heritage Farms. This time I masked the center pepper and made it a trio of peppers and sifted through some word sets and found the perfect one by The Angel Company- be unique. I used a bunch of copic colors although I could have used few and achieved a similar end look.

Copic colors: YG23 and YG67 for the stems, W3 for the shadow, Red pepper- Y000, YR05, R17, R29, R59, Green pepper- YG00, YG23, YG17, G28, Orange pepper- Y000, Y17, YR04, YR07, R17.

Well... One pepper anyway! This fresh image is from Cornish Heritage Farms in the Shady Tree Studio line. I don't know what I am going to use it for yet, but I love the images and thought they'd be fun to color! Stocking up!

It's been a great week for me to stock up on some birthday cards! Yesterday I took several images already colored in and completed some birthday cards. I avoided too many thick embellishments as I needed mailable cards. Patterened papers are great to add layers without the thickness of cardstock!
The ice cream cone image used above is by Imaginesce. I need a bigger stach of birthday cards for kids... both boys and girls. I'd love a cupcake with a similar style!
Coloring with copics as follows: cone portions- E31, E35 cherry- R29, R59 pink- R81, R83 vanilla- E51, E11 blue raspberry- B24, B26 shadows-C1, C3

Love the Sophisticated Ladies series by Rubber Necker! Here is another beauty I colored with Copics (R81, R83, R89, Y11, YR23, E00, E11, C1). The torn vellum layer is Floating Varnished Pearls by Technique Junkies... it added alittle glam to the simplier textured pink cardstock.

This soft little trio of baby girl dresses by Serendipity Stamps will be for my sweet little niece who turns one soon. With these I wanted to practice on vanilla cardstock and work with my super light Copic colors. Copics used: Y000, Y21, R000, R81, G000, G24

I still need a bigger stash... I'll be working on that some more today!

Copic Colour Challenge

Hello Friends
This weeks challenge on the Copic Colour Challenge blog is to use V06, BG15 and Y07. The only color I had the exact match was V06 so I focused on that lavender color and used variations of the other two. The stamp image is by Stampin' UP! I used tiny touches of BG10 on the lighter petals. As lightly as I could, I added halos with Y11 here and there to pop the image a bit and make it happier. The purples are not my favorites so this was more of a challenge for me:)
Colors used: V01, V06, BV000, BG10, YG03, YG17, G28, Y11

It was art time this afternoon! This beautiful rose image is by Inkadinkado. All coloring is with Copic markers. The light halo around the image is with Y11... I definitely need a lighter yellow so I can achieve a very soft halo around my images. I ordered a Y00, waiting (rather impatiently) on delivery. To finish the card I used my 2nd largest oval nestabilities die to cut the open area and applied dimensionals to the back and placed my image under that so my frame lifts off the image.

This hummingbird acres image from Inkadinkado I've used before. It's a great stamp and the drawing style is very forgiving. This time I wanted orange flowers on a sunny day. I colored in a base coat of Y11 on the flowers and layered the other colors over it. They blended exactly how I wanted them to. Love that!! I die cut the image with nestabilities and cut the oval from black to layer behind. Texture (swiss dot cuttlebug folder) was added to the white layer and a gathered rick rack to embellish.

Can I tell you I've fallen in love with coloring again?? My daughters are just having a blast with me... and yes, I'm letting them use my markers (the nibs are pretty durable). Here is another image colored with Copic Sketch markers. I've had this stamp by Penny Black for some time (it might even be retired now) and love the drawing style. I did a little more blending of markers right on the paper and worked one little section at a time (ex. one leaf at a time). I'm feeling better about how I can layer these colors as I'm practicing more.
Copic colors used: YR23, E35, E47, Y17, Y21, YR07, R17, R59, BV000, V15, V17, BV08, YG03, G07, G28, G99, B24, W3

Hello Friends
Anyone hungry for ice cream! This ice cream cone stamp by Imaginisce was 99 cents. I think I paid more for the printed paper by BoBunny... but the paper matched the stamp perfectly! All coloring with Copic markers- E31, E33, E79, R81, R83, R89, R29, C3 and a white gel pen.

Sometimes less really is more. I prefer sympathy cards I send to be simple and elegant, not to dreary, but not too happy either. This little blossom stamp by Inkadinkado had wonderfully simple lines to work with. Coloring with Copic markers- BG10, BG15.

I finished my design work for Technique Junkies today and really enjoyed all my stamp time today!! The kids all played in our 6" of snow to their hearts content and then some. They are pretty whooped out now!

Hello Friends

I had a great day today! First I taught a class at our LSS (Eclectica Scrapbooking and Stamps) with a fun group of ladies! We did the background you see on my card share today... a slightly modified version of Gesso Chic. The card the class finished is a little different than mine, but I tried to get close with the supplies I had at home. The butterfly I colored with Copics-B05, B02, YG23 for the Copic Color Challenge this week... and added a touch of stickles to catch some light. I had a great afternoon and it has been snowing in Memphis. It has snowed like 3 times this winter! It actually feels like winter.... and the kids love it! Even our chihuahua, Mojo, loves the snow! I'm hoping for more art time tomorrow!! Kimm

I want to share this butterfly card today. I intended for the design to be simple as too much stamping or layers would compete with the strong orange colors. The main image is by Inkadinkado and the layered strip is Cottoned color technique (Technique Junkies Newsletter Apr. 07). All coloring is with Copic Sketch markers: Y11, Y17, YR04, R17, E47, BV000.
